VYPE: How many years have you been playing flag football?
Kiayah Roane: I have been in flag football since the age of 6.
VYPE: Why did you start playing flag football?
KR: I got into flag football because I have always liked football, but I don’t want to tackle people because I don’t wanna get smashed, so I found an alternative for that, so that is when I found flag football.
VYPE: Who do you play for?
KR: I play for a club team called the Oklahoma City Divas. It is outside of school because nobody in school has flag football.
VYPE: What has been your favorite moment while playing?
KR: Traveling to Texas and nationals in Texas, as I got a ring for that, so it was probably my favorite moment.
VYPE: What does flag football mean to you?
KR: Flag football is, to me, a girls’ empowerment. It’s like a bunch of girls get together and play a sport that boys don’t really think girls can play.
VYPE: Do you plan to do anything with flag football in the future?
KR: Yes, I have been walking to a couple of college coaches because they are adding flag football to colleges, and I am hoping to go to college for flag football.
VYPE: What is your favorite play to make?
KR: My favorite play to make, so I am more of a defense girl, so I like to pull flags a lot. That is probably my favorite part.
VYPE: How has flag football impacted you in your daily life?
KR: Flag football keeps me in shape it gives me a leadership role among my teammates.
VYPE: What helps you keep going when you feel like giving up? Answers:
KR: My coach helps me. He is a really good helper, and he keeps me grounded.
