Little Axe’s Esteban Calderon
By Mike Moguin
Scoring over 1,000 points in basketball is a huge accomplishment. So, reaching that level makes Little Axe senior Esteban Calderon his favorite high school memory on the hardwood.
Known as “Bon” to his teammates and everyone else at school, Calderon also plays football and runs track for Little Axe.
“Never give up and always have a goal to reach,” said Bon, is what he has learned from playing sports.
He’s always appreciative of those who are helpful.
“My favorite teacher would have to be Mrs. Radebaugh,” he said. “She helped tremendously in math class.”
Calderon said his dad has taught him everything he needs to know, and he is most impressed with teammate Nick Sanders.
“He always hustles and stays motivated,” he said.
The things he likes most when he takes the court to represent his school are “being able to give the younger classmen a goal to reach or set a standard for them,” Calderon said.
The best advice Bon ever got, he said, “It’s okay to fail, just means you need to work harder.”
Calderon doesn’t have any favorite college basketball or NBA teams
I don’t have a favorite college basketball team, but his favorite player that he said he would model his performance after is Kyrie Irving of the Dallas Mavericks.
When not playing sports, Calderon is working with his dad in his company on weekends and hanging out with his girlfriend
“I would love to thank my family for all their support and advice throughout the years,” Calderon said. “I would love to thank my girlfriend Aria for her love and support, and her family for helping me out with anything and everything.”
