Athlete Spotlight with Moore’s Shay Compton – Presented by Christian Brothers Automotive

The senior season is a bittersweet moment for the graduating class. Their time in the prep ranks have come to an end and for Moore High School’s Shay Compton, it means she will no longer compete in track with her teammates.

“The events I complete in is the 4X100 and the 4×400 relays,” Compton said. “I love the memories and the fact that they are more than just teammates, they are friends and family, as season goes on the closer you get to each other.”

That support has meant a lot to Compton over the years. She started competing in track during her sixth grade year and throughout her high school career, Compton said the athletic department has always been there for her.

“They make you a better athlete and they tend to care for others and know how to push you to be your best. They also care for you as a person not just as an athlete,” said Compton.

On the track, Compton said her speed is her best quality.

“I think the strength of my skill set is having a fast time and being able to cut time off for my team. I have improved most on cutting time off of my 400,” said Compton.

But life as a student-athlete isn’t free of challenges.

“My biggest challenge as a high school athlete is managing my practices, homework and life,” Compton said. “The support from everyone means a lot especially knowing that they will always be by my side on my best and worst days.”

As for her future, Compton plans to take her talents to the next level, but in another sport.

“I am going to Rose State on a softball scholarship and have the hopes to become a dental hygienist,” said Compton.

The senior said her mother and father inspire her on and off the track.

“They are always there supporting me and pushing me to be the best version of myself that I can be.”
