2024 Edmond North Huskies Football Preview – Presented by Steve Shed – Shelter Insurance

EDMOND NORTH HUSKIES

Coach: CARTER WHITSON

3-8

OFFENSE

With a year under their belts and a true offseason program, coach Carter Whitson and his staff are excited to see the fruits of their labor come to life this season. “Excited and enthusiastic about through a productive year 0, but now we’ve had a true offseason and have been able to build off the momentum of turning this program around. We had some great seniors that we inherited but are excited about the youth taking over and really showing the state who Edmond North Football is,” said Whitson. One electric player the Huskies will feature is running back Ty Watts (5-11, 180, Sr.). Watts will be around the ball a lot this season and will likely carry the load at running back. Replacing a record setting QB was the top priority this spring, but one position that looks solid is center. Brayden Bishop (6-2, 235, Sr.) gets the start at center with Jack Luster (6-3, 270, Jr.) and Garrett Parr (6-3, 255, Sr.) shoring up the line. Parr is one of the top offensive linemen in the class and a two-year starter for the Huskies. When the passing game does get cranked up, look for guys like Reece Fisher (5-11, 165, So.) and Drake Spoon (6-2, 185, Sr.) to have big seasons. Add tight end Will Lewallen (6-4, 230, So.) to the mix and you have the makings of a formidable receiving corps. Lewallen is a matchup nightmare for linebackers.

DEFENSE

Coach Whitson wants 11 guys tackles the ball carrier, which is why the play of the defensive line is crucial for the Huskies defensive unit. Kenem Meraz (5-11, 210, Sr.) and Kaden Collins (6-4, 225, So.) are two defensive ends with a big task ahead; keep everything inside. Both guys are quick off the ball and will give the Huskies two players who can pursue the QB. RL Young (5-10, 225, So.) is a young, but talented linebacker who the coaching staff is eager to see this season. The secondary features a good mix of incoming and outgoing players. Preston McDaniel (6-2, 190, Sr.) starts at free safety, while Chauncey Cravens (5-11, 175, So.) will play corner. Cravens will likely play QB on offense this season and is considered one of the top athletes in the state. Reese McManis (5-11, 170, Sr.) is another experienced player the secondary will need this season is a league that loves to throw the ball around the yard. Also look for Matt “Ziggy” Zeller, who coach Whitson called, “one of the hardest working, strongest, hardest hitting guys he’s ever coached.”
