OKLAHOMA CHRISTIAN SCHOOL SAINTS

Coach: TANNER ROOF

9-2

OFFENSE

After a first-round exit last season, the Saints are looking to make some noise in the postseason this year. Head coach Tanner Roof says he is ready to see what his guys can accomplish this season. “We are excited about this upcoming season,” Roof said. “We graduated a big senior class last year so the focus this spring has been to get one percent better every day and compete for a position. We showed a lot of growth through spring football and had some players step up in leadership roles for our team.” Stepping up to lead the offense at quarterback will be Wyatt Fitzgerald (6-3, 185, Sr.). Roof says that Fitzgerald should have a solid year. “Wyatt will be our starting quarterback this season,” he said. “He played wide receiver last year due to us having a three-year starter at quarterback. He has an extremely strong arm and can make plays with his feet.” Joining him in the backfield will be running back Carter McCalla (58, 175, Jr.), who ended last season with 151 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Fitzgerald will also have a solid receiver group that he will work to get the ball to. Atticus Sage (6-1, 190, Jr.), Elijah Winter (5-8, 165, Jr.), and James Huffmyer (6-3, 175, Jr.) combined for 537 total yards and four touchdowns. Anchoring the offensive line will be Gunter Wantland (5-9, 225, Sr.).

DEFENSE

Last season, the Saints allowed an average of 13 points per game. This season they will look to continue to play a strong and physical defense and keep their opponent out of the endzone as much as possible. The defensive unit will be led by a tough group of linebackers. Spencer Schwandt (5-8, 180, Sr.), Hudson Able (6-4, 180, Jr.), and Preston McMinn (5-9, 180, Sr.) totaled 106 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, and two sacks as a group last season. The secondary will be patrolled by cornerback Grey Franklin (6-1, 170, Jr.) who registered 32 tackles and five interceptions a year ago. He will be joined by Coleson Morris (5-10, 170, Sr.), who will see time at cornerback and at safety this season. He did not play last year due to injury. Working to cause problems for the offense will be defensive lineman Henry Field (5-9, 210, Jr.). He had an outstanding season last year with 67 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, and two sacks. Assistant coaches this season are Dan Maly (DC), Logan Parks, Joden Jackson, Braden Glover, Caleb Heston, and Colby Robinson.
