Yukon’s Brekyn Mortensen

Every senior would like their final year of prep competition to be one they remember for a lifetime. Many seniors have sacrificed a lot to get to this point on their careers. The same can be said for Yukon High School’s Brekyn Mortensen. A softball player since the age of seven, Mortensen plays both fast and slow pitch for the Lady Millers and for the upcoming slow pitch season, Mortensen will pitch and play in the outfield.

“My favorite memory while playing for Yukon would have to be our huge win against Enid during regionals where we won 13-12 in the 11th inning which sent Yukon to state for the first time in six years,” said Mortensen.

Mortensen said representing YHS in competition and competing with her teammates have been an honor.

“YHS has been a great place for me as a student-athlete because my teachers are very understanding and accommodating for when I miss because of softball and need a day or two to catch back up or need help to learn something I might have missed,” said Mortensen.

The senior said her teammates make all of the hard work worth it.

“I love how I can go to my teammates to talk about anything softball related or not,” Mortensen said. “Awbrey Dover really impressed me this year, I think she had a great season. Madison McMahon is a very get-along person and can make anyone laugh. Aiyana Mitchell is probably the most serious on the field.”

As for Mortensen and her play on the field, the senior said her strengths are her arm and she’s worked to improve her hitting.

The season will eventually end, and the Class of 2025 will be complete. The next step for Mortensen is college.
“My goal after high school is to go to Rose State and go to school to eventually become a radiologist.”
