Q&A with Shawnee’s Talynn Speckman – Soccer Spotlight

Shawnee’s Talynn Speckman

VYPE: Talynn, what grade are you in and what position do you play for the soccer team?

Talynn Speckman: I’m a junior and I play left-back defense.

VYPE: What has soccer taught you that you use in everyday life?

TS: It showed me that you have to try and put the work in if you want to do something and it’s not easy, you have to put the time in and even when you don’t want to you still have to show up and get done what you need to do.

VYPE: What is the strength of your game and what have you improved on this season?
TS: Strength in my game is being able to be verbal and ask questions without being embarrassed so that way I can improve the right ways. I think I’ve improved and am improving with my attitude with the outlook on practice and looking forward to just actually playing as well as trying to improve with being able to use my team in the game and trust one another with the ball.

VYPE: Which teammate has impressed you or left an impression on you?
TS: I’ve been very impressed with a teammate Ainsley Crane. She always brings everyone up no matter what, and she’s never had a bad attitude or talked in a derogatory manner she always keeps a positive attitude towards everything from practicing to games winning and losing.

VYPE: Who keeps everyone laughing and who is the most serious?

TS: Kalieo Citizen keeps everyone laughing and Allyson McAllister is pretty serious most of the time.

VYPE: What do you love most about your teammates?

TS: I really love that we can all connect and not have just a “sport” relationship with each other and that most of us have real friendships within the team.

VYPE: What are your plans for life after high school?
TS: I always wanted to become a mechanic but here lately I’ve strayed to wanting to do hair and be able to work in a salon when I get older, so probably go to a cosmetology school. VYPE: What makes SHS a great place to be a student-athlete?
TS: SHS helps as an athlete because there are just so many opportunities with sports and a very wide variety to choose from and extracurricular activities, and a lot of opportunities to help keep our grades up so that way we can continue with our sports as well.
