OUTLOOK
The banners hanging in the gym at Edmond Memorial tell the story of a program built on consistency, toughness and talent. As the Lady Bulldogs head into the new season, they will rely on those same traits while a fresh group of faces steps into the spotlight. After graduating six seniors from last year state tournament squad, Memorial turns the page with one returning starter, several battle tested contributors and an exciting wave of young players ready to grow into larger roles.
Senior guard Maddy Kirk (5-8, Sr.) is the clear headliner. The lone returning starter and a standout dual sport athlete committed to Oklahoma Baptist for basketball and volleyball, Kirk brings scoring punch, poise and leadership to a rebuilt lineup. She averaged double figures in points along with strong assist, rebound and steal numbers while sharing the floor with two future power conference signees. Her ability to attack off the dribble, hit shots from the perimeter and create for others makes her the focal point of the offense, and her voice in the huddle sets the tone for the entire program.
Kirk is joined by fellow seniors Alyssa Fletcher (5-6, Sr.) and Payton Burk (5-3, Sr.), both expected to shoulder important minutes on the perimeter. Burk in particular has emerged as an emotional leader for the Bulldogs, a guard who brings energy every day and keeps the team connected on and off the floor. Their class is rounded out by a group of returning seniors who know the expectations inside the program and embrace the responsibility of carrying them forward.
Behind them is a deep core of juniors and sophomores who have waited their turn. Junior guard Sam Dage (5-8) drew praise from the staff for her summer progress and looks ready for a breakout year. Junior forward guard Ava Andrews (5-9) and others in the class give Memorial versatility across the wing positions. In the sophomore group, 6-foot-1 forward Taylor Low stands out. A skilled and mobile post who can also handle the ball and step away from the paint, Low was effective off the bench as a freshman and now will be counted on to anchor the middle, protect the rim and provide a scoring presence inside.
Other players to watch include Trinitee Palmer (5-8, Sr.), Haylie Peterson (5-5, Sr.), Brooklyn Smith (5-9, Sr.), Kennadi Pittman (5-5, Jr.), Skylar Pittman (5-7, Jr.), Taylor Low (6-1, So.), Zaiah Haskins (5-6, So.), Kenley Ray (5-5, So.), Jayden Sullivan (5-5, So.), and Caroline Cornmesser (5-4, So.).
The freshman class may be the most intriguing piece of the puzzle. Players like Payton Johnson, Emersyn Rodriguez, Peyton McDougal, Annie Seat and Emma Crabaugh arrived with confidence and competitiveness, quickly adjusting to the pace of varsity practices. Their ability to contribute quality minutes could give the Bulldogs unusual depth for such a young team and will be a key factor as the season progresses.
