Crescent’s Chezdon South – Athlete Spotlight

By Elizabeth Contreras

Crescent High School’s standout guard Chezdon South grew up in a household where basketball was constantly present. With a team that prides itself on resilience and hard work, South has emerged as a cornerstone of Crescent’s success.

Now a key asset on the tight-knit Crescent team, he is known for a dynamic playing style that keeps opponents guessing.

“I’d describe my playing style as an elite finisher at the rim, and I can shoot the three. I mostly drive to the rim and get a bucket most of the time,” he explained.

This offseason, he focused heavily on expanding his offensive toolbox, putting in extra work on his mid-range game to round out his scoring and prepare for the season. His dad and coach, Christopher Brown, remains a driving force behind his constant development. South said his dad initially drew him to the game with his own love for the sport, and now he is his unremitting motivator.

“My biggest influence is my dad. He pushes me to the extreme and wants nothing but the best for me. He wants me to be better than he was, which isn’t an easy task,” South said.

His support system is part of what fuels his endless hunger to compete. South’s goals this season are to show consistent improvement and to be a good leader, which he said is a role he doesn’t take lightly. His goals are centered not on individual glory, but on reliability and leadership.

“It means a lot to me to be a leader. You have to build your teammates up, because no matter how good you are, you can’t win games without your team,” he explained.

He aims to provide stability for incoming underclassmen and serve as a dependable figure they can lean on. South’s plans after high school are to continue playing basketball in college. He has been preparing for that opportunity for years, dedicating countless unseen hours to his craft.

“I’ve always wanted to play college ball and live my dream,” he shared.
