Norman’s Rylie Hillis

By Mike Moguin

Rylie Hillis is active in both wrestling and softball, thriving in both as a sophomore at Norman High School

“The best advice I’ve gotten is that nothing is ever given,” Hillis said. “You have to work towards what you want to earn it.”

She has earned quite a lot so far on the mat, and the moments have been special for this NHS Tiger.

“I am most proud of being a 2025 state qualifier,” Hillis said. “Also, winning the Central Oklahoma Athletic Conference wrestler award as a freshman last year.

“My sport taught me you have to work for what you want,” Hillis said. “Nothing is just given.”

It’s always a plus when you have family that has been involved in a sport like wrestling. Hillis’ father has been involved with it and has a background. She looks to him as her inspiration for success.

“My dad has been doing this sport for a long time and is always there when I need to talk,” she said.

Hillis also has someone on her team, as well as her coach, whom she looks up to.

“Claire Lancaster is my teammate who has left the biggest impression on me,” she said. “She is my best friend and has always been there for me and always pushes me to my goals.

“Carl Lancaster, he’s been my coach forever through little league and then middle school and now high school,” Hillis said. “He always is there for me, win or lose. He always tries to help me reach my goals. He’s also a friend. He’s always putting a smile on my face when he talks to me and when he enters rooms.
