Norman North’s Harlow Gregory
VYPE: What do you love most about your teammates at NNHS?
Harlow Gregory: We all have the same goals/standards as a team, we have a good work ethic, even if we aren’t together every day, we know that everyone is practicing and working hard individually.
VYPE: What age did you start playing competitive golf?
HG: At the age of six, and I am now 15 in 10th grade, although I have had a golf club in my hand since about three. The toughest part of being a golfer by far is how mentally challenging it is and how precise your decision-making has to be at all times.
VYPE: Do you have a favorite club to hit?
HG: The driver is my favorite club to hit because standing over a driver and the irons are very different for me. I can stripe the driver down the fairway all day long, but the irons look a little different in my hand.
VYPE: What is the strength of your game and what are you working to improve?
HG: My biggest strength has always been my short game, and right now I’m critiquing some things in my swing and really trying to hit all those greens this year.
VYPE: What has golf taught you that you can use in life?
HG: I think I have learned so many life skills from golf that I can use off the golf course daily. Golf has made my outlook on life different as I have gotten older. Also playing against older girls and boys since I was young matured me a little faster, and I think with golf being so mentally challenging at times, it helps your thinking process outside of golf as well.
VYPE: Who inspires you?
HG: I would say that the friends and family who support me the most inspire me. They have followed my golf journey from the time I started playing, and that’s what keeps me going. There are also just several people I look up to in a way that makes me want to work even harder and be like them, of course, especially the work ethic they have as well, and how much time they dedicate to golf on and off the course.
VYPE: What would you like to do after you graduate?
HG: I would love to play golf at the Division 1 level if the Lord opens that door for me.
