Piedmont Wildcats Softball Preview – Presented by F&M Bank of Piedmont

PIEDMONT WILDCATS

Coach: KEITH COLEMAN

39-3

OUTLOOK

Piedmont is looking to become the second in-state team after the Oklahoma Sooners to four-peat this year. A year ago, the Wildcats won their fourth title in five years and achieved the first three-peat in 5A softball history, a run during which they went 79-6. The Wildcats’ returning pitching staff features two college commits: Addison Underwood (Sr.), a Southern Nazarene commit; Cameron Kimball (Sr.), a Northeastern State commit; and Lauren Moser (Sr.). “Addison Underwood will head into 2024 as our ace. She’s had a phenomenal career in the circle the last three years but has had to wait her turn with our previous pitcher being a four-year starter for us,” head coach Keith Coleman said. “She has the ability to be a dominant arm for us in 2024.”

Catcher Taybor Moss, a four-year starter and Washburn commit, batted an astounding .476 last year with 37 RBIs, 13 doubles and seven home runs. “Taybor is one of the best offensive players in our state,” Coleman said. “She was named the district offensive player of the year last year and will garner a ton of awards after her senior season.”

Ashlyn Emmert (Jr.) can play either edge base and can designate. She batted .326 with 31 hits, 28 RBIs, seven doubles and two home runs. “We will depend on her [Emmert’s] versatility on defense and offensive punch in 2024.

Other returning starters include shortstop Addison Cassady (Sr.), second baseman Catie Meyer (Sr.) and center fielder Kaylie Rocco (Sr.). Others who will receive significant playing time include MACU commit Madison Schroeder (Sr.), Braxten Newton (Sr.), Hannah Lake (Sr.), Klaire Luschen (Jr.), Maddie Kimball (Jr.) and McKenzie Kihanga (Jr.). “Hannah will be a senior for us in 2024. She has been one of our team leaders during her career with Piedmont softball,” Coleman said. “Hannah is also a member of the Piedmont High School Student Council.” The Wildcats open at home against Stillwater at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13.
